Saturday Crafters September 16th

Saturday Crafters September 16th 10am-3pm

Its that time of year again!  Cool fall nights and a craving to get back to our regular routines and that includes SATURDAY CRAFTERS!

I can't wait to see everyone again to see what you've been working on over the summer or what you hope to work on in the colder months ahead.  When the temperature drops, it automatically makes you think of warm and fuzzy projects to make for yourself, loved ones and even strangers who need a helping hand.
Come out and join us for great company, conversation and crafting!

Here are some things that were made by Vicky and Jodie over the summer. Vicky made the rag quilt and basket, Jodie the half square triangle quilt, knitted flag pillow and shawl in a ball shawl.

Here a few pictures of Adam and Jodie's trip to Stitches Mid-West in Chicago - so much yarn! and we got to meet and be interviewed by Kristy Glass Knits and also met Mr. Hugzzz (he makes Big Stix knitting needles).  Adam is hooked now! (no pun intended haha!) **sorry the one picture is turned**

Valerie Judas, myself and some other Kingsville knitters/crocheters did another yarn bomb at the Kingsville Folk Fest:

Summer is Here!

Here's what was happening in May before our summer break!

I won 3rd Place! (Jodie Matte)

This was the Trend Tex Challenge at the Canadian Quilting Association Quilt Show - we only had five Trend Tex fabrics to work with.  Check out the link to see the other quilts entered https://www.canadianquilter.com/photo-gallery/trend-tex-quilters-challenge.php?year=2017 .
The quilts are auctioned off to raise money for the Canadian Quilting Association.

The theme was "a Canadian Memory", my quilt description is as follows (they have a spelling mistake in the picture above): No matter where you go in the country, if you are feeling lonely, all you have to do is go to a Tim Horton's and you feel at home!

I just started reading this book, I think its going to be a great read - and its not only for knitters, this book can apply to any craft.  Here is a quote from the back of the book:

What she has discovered is exciting.  This book explains her findings and shows you how you can knit to benefit your health and wellbeing, as well as improve your relationships, friendships and community.

Kristy Glass Knits is doing a book club on this book on her Raverly page, just search "Kristy Glass Knits" if you want to join in.

Saturday Crafters April 15th

Saturday Crafters is a like a one day retreat! Check out the tips for retreat sewing from Jeni Baker's Blog In Color Order - these tips definitely apply to Saturday Crafters!

TIPS FOR RETREAT SEWING

One of my favorite things to do is get together with friends and sew. The Internet makes it so easy for all of us to connect, but it just isn't the same as enjoying each other's company in person. I will admit though, I am not very good at staying on task when sewing with others. Over the years, I have learned a few tricks for getting the most out of sewing retreats.

Over Pack Tools + Projects: I always bring a small cutting mat and at least one ruler. Oftentimes there may be mats or rulers to share, but I like having something right next to my machine. For projects, I like having a variety (more than I could ever hope to finish!). I usually don't feel like working on half of them by the time I sit down to sew. Having different projects helps to keep me from getting bored!

Choosing Projects + Prep Work: My attention span is usually pretty short at retreats because I spend a lot of time talking! I keep this in mind when choosing projects. I don't try to tackle anything too complicated. I like projects that have a lot of repetition or chain piecing, since I don't need to pay too close attention. I try to do as much prep work as I can, any pressing, cutting, or marking I can do in advance.

Be Easy On Yourself: It feels great to come home from a retreat having made lots of progress on my projects. However, if I spend more time talking and relaxing than sewing, that's okay too. I try to let myself simply enjoy the company of my friends and don't get too wrapped up in how much I've accomplished. It's the laughter and conversations I'm going to remember over time, not what I worked on!
