Yarn Bombing this Friday September 18th at 7PM

Definition: "Yarnstorming (also known as yarnbombing): the art of enhancing a public place or object with graffiti knitting"
(Or putting knitting on something unexpected in public and running always giggling wildly)

A Yarn Bombing is just a fun way to display some creativity in a public place and Art Space Essex will be doing one this Friday September 18 at 7pm in celebration of our first Open Studio of the year which is Saturday September 19th! The Yarn Bombing display will be up all day Saturday.

Join us in downtown Essex in front of the old Bennigans to decorate the town in knitted and crocheted creativity!  We are just winging this since its our first time, so we are going to simply have fun and hopefully put some smiles on the locals faces :)

If you are not able to join us to put up the yarn bombing, maybe you can help us take it down Saturday September 19th at 4PM.

Hope to see you there!

If you'd like to join in, here are some sizes of swatches needed: 3" wide by however long you want and 6" wide by however long you want. Granny squares in these sizes would be great too! Take a look at the bench picture here, we'll be going for that look. Here are some measurements of items to be covered: 8ft high x 4" square, 6ft long x 3" x 10 slats (bench x 2), 28" diameter x 3ft high. I've been told by an official yarn bomber to keep your swatches at least 1" smaller than you need, then you can stretch them for a nice tight fit (measurements given above are exactly what we are looking for).

JOIN OUR FACEBOOK GROUP CALLED YARN BOMB ESSEX - you will be updated on all the yarny details here :)

THANKSGIVING PRAYER FLAGS - TUESDAY OCTOBER 6TH 6:30PM - 8:00PM AT THE ESSEX LIBRARY

Prayer flags are a creative way of sending comforting thoughts, hopes and prayers upon the wind in hopes of touching others who see them. And what a better time of year than Thanksgiving, to show our thankfulness for all the good things in our lives! Come out and be creative and “thankful” by creating your own prayer flag that you can hang outside and display gratefully this Thanksgiving. Visit the Prayer Flag Project online for ideas and examples of prayer flags http://theprayerflagproject.blogspot.ca/ Here is an excerpt from the Prayer Flag Project - In a nutshell, it is believed that the prayers on the flags are lifted to God and spread throughout the universe as they flutter in the wind. Everyone who is touched by that wind, is touched by the prayers. The wind spreads the prayers through the world, extending happiness, good will, and peace. What a wonderful concept.
Please feel free to bring in special or purchased fabrics, buttons, ribbons, etc. that can be glued or sewn to a fabric background that will be the starting point for your flag – a variety of fabric scraps, buttons and your fabric flag background will be supplied.
